What this article is about
This article explains how to request a return from LTFT to full-time training.
Who this is for
Doctors and dentists in training who are currently LTFT and want to return to full-time training.
What you need to know
- Returning to full-time training is a change in WTE and must be requested through the correct process.
- You should normally provide at least 16 weeks’ notice before the proposed change date or next rotation change.
- Return to full-time training may depend on programme capacity, placement availability and employer arrangements.
- Your CCT date may need to be recalculated.
- Your employer will need enough notice to update rota, contract, pay and work schedule arrangements.
- If your LTFT approval was time-limited, you should follow the instructions given in your approval correspondence.
- You should not change your working pattern until the change is confirmed.
What to do
- Discuss your intention to return to full-time training with your Training Programme Director or nominated senior educator.
- Check the LTFT application or change window.
- Submit the change request through the correct route.
- Include your proposed return date and current WTE.
- Confirm any placement or rotation impact.
- Wait for written confirmation.
- Contact your employer about rota, contract and pay arrangements once the change is confirmed.
If this does not work
If full-time return cannot be accommodated on the requested date, you may be offered an alternative date or asked to remain at your current WTE until the next suitable point.
Who to contact
Use the PGMDE Support Portal for LTFT change queries. Contact your Training Programme Director for programme capacity and training discussions. Contact your employer for rota, pay, contract and HR queries.
